Abstract

This study contributes to the literature on organizational intelligence by extending the foundational model proposed by Más (2015) through the incorporation of artificial intelligence as a constitutive socio-technical element of the organizational system. While the original model conceptualizes organizational intelligence through the interaction of individuals, methods or means, relationships, and organizational processes, this study preserves this structural configuration and extends upon it by introducing artificial intelligence as a sociotechnical infrastructure constitutive of the organizational system, one whose cross-cutting action reconfigures the flow, interpretation, and transformation of information across the components of organizational intelligence. In doing so, the paper shifts the role of artificial intelligence from an external analytical tool to an embedded systemic element that co-constitutes organizational intelligence. This reconceptualization advances theory by explaining how artificial intelligence not only supports organizational cognition but also reshapes the relational and processual dynamics through which organizational knowledge is generated, shared, and transformed. Accordingly, the study contributes to a socio-technical understanding of organizational intelligence in which human cognitive, affective, and volitional processes are inseparably intertwined with AI-enabled analytical and computational capabilities. By making explicit the structural role of artificial intelligence within the organizational intelligence system, the paper provides a more integrated explanation of how organizational intelligence emerges and evolves. This extension also opens new theoretical avenues for examining how human–AI configurations influence learning, coordination, and knowledge generation in contemporary organizational contexts characterized by complexity and uncertainty.
