Abstract

Martí's economic thought is characterized by its diversity due to the number of different topics it addresses. This might seem limiting, but it is not at all. In his journalistic works, Martí, like any keen observer, developed current issues of his time, extracting from them ideas that today allow us to highlight the acuity with which they were developed, which allowed him to highlight aspects of economic life that others failed to see. He was able to draw a set of conclusions and ideas that have not lost their validity today and are often ahead of their time. The work presented here constitutes an expansion of a series of ideas on how the maestro approached socioeconomic development for the peoples of the Americas south of the Rio Grande, which he defines as "Our America," in addition to continuing the approach to a series of topics that complement his ideas on development. To do so, we rely on the maestro's original work, collected in his journalistic works, as well as the letters from his extensive correspondence on the economic situation in Hispanic America.
