Last-Mile Logistics, Sustainability, Border CitiesAbstract
Last-mile operations in cities along the Mexico-US border are particularly challenging due to the volume of binational trade, urban congestion, and a lack of local sustainable solutions. The rise of e-commerce and demands for rapid delivery have increased the number of delivery trucks, resulting in pollution emissions, inefficiencies, and strain on road infrastructure. The challenge lies in designing last-mile models that reduce environmental impact and improve efficiency without compromising economic competitiveness. An analysis is conducted regarding regulatory asymmetries, the costs of clean technologies, and the lack of cooperation among stakeholders in implementing solutions. Last-mile sustainability offers an opportunity to transform border logistics into a competitive, clean, and socially inclusive model aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
